The Motorola models we will see in the coming months

Many believed that Motorola phones were part of the past. However, this is not the case and quite the contrary, it has a stronger presence in the market. The brand, that belonged to Google at the beginning of the last decade, is now part of the Chinese company Lenovo and in 2021 has launched several very interesting devices in the market.

Two of its most recent launches have include the Motorola Defy 2021, an ultra-resistant smartphone with a large battery; and the Moto G 5G, the company’s cheapest device with 5G connectivity so far. But these smartphones are not the only ones in Motorola’s catalog for this year. In the coming months we will see three new devices that promise to conquer the market.

Another Motorola Edge and two models of the G series arrive

Rumors about new Motorola phones have been confirmed with a publication by Evan Blass, one of the most reputable leakers in the industry. Blass revealed that these are three smartphones that will feature Qualcomm Snapdragon processors.

According to the information revealed, one of the three devices will be the Motorola Moto Edge 20 Lite. In early 2020, the brand launched two Edge devices: Motorola Edge and Motorola Edge+. These were the first two high-end devices of this brand in years.

Now, the Edge 20 Lite model appears to be a more modest version of these devices. Although there is not much information about it, speculations claim it will have a curved edge display like the others in the Edge series and that it could have a 108-megapixel camera.

The two remaining devices, that are expected to hit the market in the coming months, are the Motorola Moto G60S and the Moto G50 5G. The former would be a variant of the recent Motorola Moto G60, which was launched a few months ago for the Indian market. This is a mid-range device with a large 6.8-inch display and a 6,000 mAh battery.

The second model is a bit confusing, since in early 2021 the brand launched the Motorola Moto G50, a device that already incorporated 5G connectivity. Therefore, it is not clear at the moment what the differences are there between the two devices.

The most remembered Motorola phones

In the world of mobile telephony, Motorola is an iconic brand. Many remember with nostalgia the time when standing in front of a shelf, the difficult task of choosing between a Motorola phone and a Nokia, two great rivals of the 90s and early 2000s.

As for Motorola in particular, many of its devices were very famous. One of the most remembered is undoubtedly the Motorola RAZR V3, of which the brand released a new version at the end of 2019. It is a device that came to revive the nostalgia of many users and to bet on a novelty: a folding screen.

What other equipment contributed to consolidate Motorola as one of the best cell phone brands on the market? While the new devices arrive, let’s take a look back at some of the Motorola phones that marked the history of communications.

  • Motorola Dynatac

1983 was the year Motorola completed its cell phone development project. The Motorola Dynatac 8000X was the first commercial cell phone in history. It weighed 800 grams and its battery, which took almost 10 hours to charge, allowed a 60-minute call.

  • Motorola Microtac

In 1989 came the Motorola Microtac Pocket Cellular Telephone 9800x. It was similar in design to the Dynatac, but its big difference was its size and weight. It was considerably smaller and weighed less than half as much: only 350 grams. It had a small cover to cover its keypad and small screen.

  • Motorola StarTAC

In 1994 the brand launched its first clamshell phone, which allowed its keypad and speaker to be completely hidden. It weighed just 88 grams and was the first device to incorporate the vibration function in calls. It became one of the first phones to sell massively and even had versions compatible with SMS.

  • Motorola Talkabout 182c

Also known as Motorola Patagonia, the Talkabout 182c hit the market in 2001. It quickly became an excellent alternative for those looking for a quality and attractive phone. It stood out because it was possible to change its original casing for a colored one.

  • Motorola ROKR

Another Motorola phone worth remembering is the ROKR. Although it was not one of the brand’s biggest commercial successes, this device stands out for having been the first phone compatible with iTunes. In 2005 Apple and Motorola teamed up to launch this device that incorporated a music player. In a way, it was a phone that started what would be the change in the concept of cell phones.

The new Motorola phones have little or nothing to do with these mythical models. However, they are still a great hallmark, as well as a track record of quality to back them up. We will have to see if the new smartphones are up to what the new consumers now expect.
